Anaconda scoops top prize at 2016 Lions Lair contest - 18 March 2016
Radius Systems' latest innovation Anaconda, along with its presenter Peter Jellis, was awarded "The Tommy McNicholas Shield" for coming first in the Dragons' Den inspired contest, the Lions Lair, an event jointly organised by IGEM and the Pipeline Industries Guild (PIG) on 18th February 2016.
Anaconda was voted best in class by the judges of this year's Lions Lair competition which rewards innovative products and services that bring improvements or cost benefits to the utility sector. The awards were part of the London Showcase Event, themed 'Innovate & Inspire' and were judged by an esteemed panel of 3 industry experts, Robert Murray, director of business strategy at PQMS Training, Adam Gosnold executive director for Morrison Utility Services and Steven McNicholas, safety and sustainability director for McNicholas Construction.
A cutting-edge innovation by Radius Systems, Anaconda is the solution to challenges facing gas transporters and contractors, when carrying out service pipe connections. Combining a PE80 range-rated tapping tee with a factory fused flexible polyethylene service pipe outlet, this ground-breaking solution minimises the number of electrofusion fittings and associated joints required to connect a service pipe to a gas main, and is capable of accommodating directional changes between the main and the service pipe connection, bringing substantial installation cost and time savings.
Contenders from four utility suppliers, Radius Systems, Abriox, PSS-ControlPoint and Synthotech were invited to give a four minute pitch on their company's innovative products and services, with an additional four minute time slot allotted for questions from the judging panel. Gas account manager Peter Jellis, who represented Radius Systems at the event, commented on winning the award: "I am thrilled to receive this prize on behalf of Radius Systems who have always been dedicated to bringing innovations to the utility industry. It is great to see our hard work rewarded by industry experts who have a vested interest in promoting innovation within this sector." David Goodall, chairman of the IGEM London, Southern & Eastern Section added: "Peter gave a winning presentation on Anaconda, which was full of dynamism. The fact that this new development would reduce the quantity of fittings used on a service connection, with less chance of leakages and reduce the potential for third party damage is great news for the gas industry. I was certainly sold; and so were the judges."
