Rolldown & Slipline - North Walsham - Radius Subterra

Challenges Radius Subterra Faced

  • Limited Access and Environmental Constraints: The 10” PVC pipeline was located in mature woodland in East Anglia, with restricted access due to trees and badger sets, making traditional excavation methods impractical.

  • Inadequate Traditional Solutions: Conventional slip-lining was not feasible because the reduced bore size of a 225mm PE pipe could not maintain the necessary water flow rate.

The Radius Subterra Solution

  • Innovative Rolldown Method: Subterra used the Rolldown technique, which involved temporarily reducing the diameter of a 250mm PE100 pipe by 10% to fit into the existing PVC pipeline, then reverting it to its original size as a close-fit liner. This approach maximised the bore, required minimal excavation, and maintained optimal water flow.

  • Custom Pipe Design: Radius Systems manufactured bespoke 13.5m sections of 250mm SDR21 PE100 pipe, tailored to the project requirements, reducing on-site welding and enhancing installation efficiency.
