At Radius Systems we are always working towards a more sustainable future, with a particular focus on our journey to net-zero. Back in 2022, our board of directors chose to set and commit to meeting a target under the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi) to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and GHG (greenhouse gases). This was in line with the latest climate science, and the requirements under the Paris Agreement to limit global temperature increases to 1.5°C by the end of this century. Let’s take a look at our journey to net zero in more detail.
Our Initial Net Zero Targets
During 2024 we quantified our 2023 baseline year GHG inventory and submitted this, along with our science-based emissions reductions targets, to SBTi in December that year. The idea behind this was to have a starting point for our net zero journey, allowing us to put together quantifiable end goals.
In March 2025, SBTi validated that our science-based near-term GHG emissions reductions targets conform with the SBTi Standards and Guidance (criteria version 5.2). Our target was to reduce absolute scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions by 50.4% by 2032 from a 2023 base year.
Our net-zero target is to reduce absolute scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions by 90% by 2045 from a 2023 base year. This has also been validated by SBTi, and conforms with their Corporate Net Zero Standards and Guidance. The really exciting part of this goal is that we were one of only 22 corporate-scale building products manufacturers in the world to have made these or similar commitments (i.e: to achieve net-zero GHG emissions by 2050).
We Raised The Bar
Not only do our net zero GHG emissions targets encompass Radius UK, but also all of our wholly-owned subsidiaries including Radius Plastics Ltd in Lurgan, Northern Ireland; Radius Subterra Ltd which has depots in England, Scotland and Wales; Aeon International (Europe) in Szamotuły, Poland; and associated administrative offices in Dubai and China.
This really emphasises our commitment as a global company to make a difference to the world around us and help play a part in limiting global temperature increases.
What The Future of Net Zero Looks Like
Back in September 2025 we completed the quantification of our GHG inventory for calendar year 2024. We are pleased to be able to report a 4.75% reduction in our GHG emissions during the first full year of our journey to net-zero. This reduction was driven by a 5.3% reduction in our scope 3 emissions, a fantastic result in our first year of making positive changes.
Although our 2024 GHG emissions reduction was less than our 5.6% annual reduction target, the ongoing development of our understanding of our GHG emissions inventory will enable us to prioritise for action those areas of our operations which make the greatest contribution to it. This was still an incredibly positive start in our journey to becoming net zero.
We are tracking our performance through 2025 and are confident that we have accelerated the reduction in our GHG emissions. We have developed some exciting initiatives which, with the support of our supply chain and our customers, should continue to contribute to our net-zero journey. We will continue to scrutinise every aspect of our GHG inventory relentlessly to drive down our GHG emissions and support the global endeavour to achieve net-zero GHG emissions by 2050 and limit global temperature increases to 1.5°C by the end of this century.
