What Are the Different Elements of the Water Pipe Network?
In the UK, Ofwat is the independent regulator for overseeing the water and wastewater sector. To help explain how water reaches homes and businesses, Ofwat identifies three main types of water pipes:
1. The mains pipe, which is the large public water pipe that carries drinking water throughout the water network.Â
2. The communication pipe, which connects the mains pipe to the boundary of the private property.Â
3. The supply pipe, which runs from the boundary of the property into the building itself. This delivers water directly into your home's internal plumbing system.
